Paris Qui Dort

Rene Clair (1923)

Clair’s first film exploits stop-motion photography in a bizarre comic fantasy in which a mad scientist uses a magic ray to render the city immobile. Only a group of strangers atop the Eiffel tower or in a plane, remain conscious to search for the culprit and bring Paris back to life. Made on such a tight budget that on one day the crew could not stump up enough cash to pay the entry fee to the Eiffel Tower.
