Seventh Heaven

Frank Borzage 1927

Starring Charles Farrel and Jane Gaynor, this film won 3 Oscars in the first year of the Academy Awards and spawned a hit tune ‘ My Diane’ The film contains a wonderfully sustained depiction of a developing love affair between a street washer and a rejected sister thrown onto the streets and offered her first real home by Chico the street washer. Sent away to war, Chico makes Diane promise to think of him at 11.00 am each day. Told that Chico has been killed, she initially despairs, but the film ends with a bizarre twist. (120 minutes)
