The Lodger

Alfred Hitchcock 1926

A version of the Jack the ripper story, with a Hitchcockian twist. The theme of an innocent man accused of a crime and barely suppressed hints of sexual aberration are pure Hitchcock, as is his mastery of everyday detail, which is subverted by ironic humour. Starring Ivor Novello and June Marie Ault. (96 minutes)

Score by Paul Robinson commissioned by the National Museum of Film and Photography. 16mm
